A Flygt pump seal leak should be assessed from its chamber inspection, alarm history and service manual, not from one cloudy oil sample alone. Isolate the pump, identify where liquid has entered, and confirm the exact seal arrangement before ordering parts.
What signs matter?
Record the oil or buffer-fluid condition, the amount drained, any inspection-chamber or leakage alarm, and whether liquid reached the stator housing. Some moisture in an oil-buffered chamber can occur during normal seal operation; the trend and model-specific limits matter more than color alone.
What should the service team check?
- Stop, lock out and safely lift the pump. Follow the exact Flygt care manual and site rules for electrical work, lifting and confined spaces.
- Check the chamber fluid against earlier service records, inspect plugs and gaskets, and verify alarm wiring and sensors. Determine whether the suspected path is the outer seal, inner seal or another entry point.
- Have qualified personnel inspect seal faces, shaft and mating surfaces as the manual directs. Investigate vibration, abrasive solids, cavitation or repeated starts if leakage recurs; replacing a seal without the cause may repeat the failure.
When is replacement justified?
An alarm before the scheduled inspection, increasing ingress, or fluid entering the motor side needs prompt evaluation under the model manual. A small, stable moisture finding alone is not a universal replacement threshold. Do not dismantle a running-in seal simply to look: disturbed faces may not reseat reliably.
What belongs in a seal-parts RFQ?
Send the full Flygt model and serial number, nameplate and old-seal photos, inner or outer position, seal/chamber design, fluid and solids, oil or buffer-fluid findings, alarm log and inspection results. Ask for the matching seal, gaskets and specified chamber fluid; price depends on verified configuration and repair scope.
Frequently asked questions
Does cloudy oil always mean the seal has failed?
No. Assess water content, trend and the limits in the exact model manual. Repeated or increasing ingress deserves inspection.
Can I order by shaft size alone?
No. Seal position, arrangement, materials and pump configuration must match the serial-specific parts information.
